02 Web design in North York

Websites that work as hard as North York.

North York is the centre of Toronto’s north: office towers along Yonge Street around North York Centre, corporate campuses in Don Mills, Yorkdale, York University, major hospitals including Sunnybrook and North York General, and busy neighbourhood main streets. Its business community leans towards professional services, healthcare, education and retail.

Those organisations sell trust as much as anything. A clinic, law firm, tutoring centre or accounting practice needs a website that answers clients’ questions before they call, shows the people behind the work, and makes booking or getting in touch easy — on a phone, and for everyone, including people using assistive technology. Larger organisations add the need for a site many people can update safely.

Whatever the business, the foundations are the same: a fast site that works on every screen, built to WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility — Ontario’s AODA website requirements apply to organisations with 50 or more employees — with clear structure and structured data so search engines understand what you do and where you work. Our guide to local SEO and Google Maps explains how your website and Google Business Profile work together.

06 FAQ

Web design North York: questions, answered.

01Do you work with businesses in North York?

Yes. North York is part of Toronto, where our studio is based, and we work with organisations across the city and the GTA — as well as clients further afield.

02Do clinics and professional firms need anything special on their websites?

Mainly care with personal information. Forms should collect only what you need, explain why, and store it securely: PIPEDA applies to private-sector organisations, and Ontario’s PHIPA applies to health information custodians. Clear service pages, practitioner or team profiles and online booking do the rest.

03Does my North York business need an accessible website?

Under Ontario’s AODA, businesses and non-profits with 50 or more employees must make their public websites meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA, with two exceptions (live captions and pre-recorded audio description). Smaller organisations aren’t covered by that rule, but an accessible site reaches more customers and is easier for everyone to use. We design and build to WCAG 2.2 AA as a baseline.

04Can we redesign our website without losing our search rankings?

Yes, if the move is planned. A redesign should keep what search engines already value: every existing URL mapped to its new page with a 301 redirect, titles, descriptions and structured data carried over, and Search Console checked after launch for errors.

05Will a new website help my business show up in North York searches?

It is one part of it. Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence, so your Google Business Profile, your reviews and your website all contribute. A fast site with clear service pages, accurate contact details and structured data gives the rest a strong foundation.
